We need to be clear, of course, what is involved in repentance. It is not mere guilt-feelings, or a change in outward lifestyle, or a fear of retribution, human or divine. Nor, again, is it simply regret over the pain we may have caused to others and the shame and embarrassment we have brought upon ourselves. It does indeed mean facing the truth about ourselves, but the paramount truth we have to face is the pain we have caused a loving God; grief and anger against the sin that hurt him. By the same token, the action we have to take is not merely to turn from sin, but to turn to him, confident that he will forgive us.
"And then all the host of Rohan burst into song, and they sang as they slew, for the joy of the battle was on them, and the sound of their singing that was fair and terrible came even to the City."

Turn From, Turn To
One more Donald Macleod quote. Here he sounds like Thomas Watson.

Let the saints be joyful in glory, let them sing aloud on their beds, let the high praises of God be in their mouth, and a two edged sword in their hand, to execute vengeance on the nations, and punishments on the peoples; to bind the kings with chains and their nobles with fetters of iron. Psalm 149:5-8
