Book Review: Taking God at His Word

Taking God at His Word: Why the Bible Is Knowable, Necessary, and Enough, and What That Means for You and MeTaking God at His Word: Why the Bible Is Knowable, Necessary, and Enough, and What That Means for You and Me by Kevin DeYoung
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

DeYoung knows what he is trying to do and does it well. This is an introductory theology of the Bible. Why we need it? Why is authoritative? What did Jesus believe about the Scriptures? etc. DeYoung, as usual, is clear and practical. I found his chapter on clarity to be one of the best. The idea that the Bible is clear is one of the most challenged doctrines today. His writing style is simple and easy, making the book an excellent one to hand out to new Christians or Christians struggling with the Scriptures. He has a great appendix with 30 more advanced books on the Bible for those who want to read more.

Let the saints be joyful in glory, let them sing aloud on their beds, let the high praises of God be in their mouth, and a two edged sword in their hand, to execute vengeance on the nations, and punishments on the peoples; to bind the kings with chains and their nobles with fetters of iron. Psalm 149:5-8
