Book Review: Tortured for Christ

Tortured For ChristTortured For Christ by Richard Wurmbrand
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

The only reason this book gets four stars instead of five is the writing style. At times, Wurmbrand was hard to follow and it seemed excessively repetitive.

But I have not read a book in recent memory that made me think as much about Christian resistance as this one did. Wurmbrand gives detail after detail of what the Christians did to undermine and oppose Communism. He also gives details of the price they paid. There were sections that made me cry. There were sections that made me angry and sections that made me think. It was a good reminder that persecution was not just an early church phenomenon.

Let the saints be joyful in glory, let them sing aloud on their beds, let the high praises of God be in their mouth, and a two edged sword in their hand, to execute vengeance on the nations, and punishments on the peoples; to bind the kings with chains and their nobles with fetters of iron. Psalm 149:5-8
