Take Up and Read: Thursday Edition

Pastor Paul Tripp explains why pastors tend to get depressed and burn out. I thought point number one was excellent and one that wives should be taught as well.

Justin Taylor has some thoughts on the death of John Stott. I read two of Stott's books recently, Between Two Worlds and The Sermon on the Mount. Both were excellent, with Between Two Worlds being one of the best books on preaching I have read in a long time. The Christian world has lost an elder statesman.

John Piper talks about Stott's ability to open up the Bible and show the treasures inside and how that affected Piper's ministry.

Finally, Tim Challies talks about how buying his Honda Civic made him think about consumerism and choices. This article makes me want to trim down my choices.

Let the saints be joyful in glory, let them sing aloud on their beds, let the high praises of God be in their mouth, and a two edged sword in their hand, to execute vengeance on the nations, and punishments on the peoples; to bind the kings with chains and their nobles with fetters of iron. Psalm 149:5-8
